About us
Honest labels and safer products
Our approach is broad—honest labels, safer products, and updating the gaps in supplement and product law. Right now our focus is the chemicals in vapes, energy pills (concentrated 7-OH), and related products.
Our mission
The Wiley Rule is a North Carolina nonprofit that works for honest labels and safer consumer products. Our approach is broad—including reform of the gaps left by the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act—but right now our focus is the chemicals showing up in vapes, energy pills (concentrated 7-OH), and related products sold in smoke shops, convenience stores, gas stations and online. Through clear public education and careful nonpartisan research, we shine a light on hidden ingredients and chemicals, on the real risks of these products, and on how regulatory gaps let them reach store shelves without proof they are safe or contain what they claim. We share what we learn with the public, schools, health professionals and public officials, and we speak up for common-sense safeguards, so that what's on the label is what's in the bottle.
Our vision
A country where what’s on the label is what’s in the bottle, and where new and potent ingredients are shown to be safe before they reach a shelf.
Our theory of change
Step 1
Evidence
We gather and grade published research, government notices and lab findings, and cite every claim.
Step 2
Public understanding
We turn that evidence into plain-language guides for the public, schools and clinicians.
Step 3
State action
We share what we learn with state officials, who can act faster than Congress, as more than twenty states already have.
Step 4
Federal reform
We explain how the 1994 supplement law could be updated so every product is listed, honestly labeled and shown to be safe.
How we work
- Nonpartisan. We explain laws and evidence. We do not support or oppose any candidate or party.
- Sourced. Every fact links to its primary source. If we get something wrong, we fix it. See our corrections policy.
- Safety and honesty, not blanket bans. Traditional vitamins, minerals and long-used botanicals stay as they are. Our concern is new, concentrated and lab-made ingredients sold without proof of safety.
